Dr. Hovy is a member of Transclick's Board of Advisors. He is the President, American Machine Translation Association and the President-elect, International Machine Translation Association. Dr. Hovy currently leads the Natural Language Group at the Institute of Information Sciences at the University of Southern California. The Group conducts research in various aspects of natural language processing. His research includes medical informatics and health care and the development of technology to support semi-automated acquisition and construction of large lexicons for various languages. Dr. Hovy holds an MS and a PhD in Computer Science from Yale University and is proficient in Afrikaans, German and Dutch. He graduated from Rand Afrikaans University with a BSc in Mathematics and Publications (cum laude). During his many years of research, Dr. Hovy has written and published numerous papers on Machine Translation and Natural Language Processing. He sat on the board of the Journal of the Society of Natural Language Processing of Japan from 1997-99.
